TEBEDU - old border town betwen Malaysia - Indonesia (Sarawak - Kalimantan)

It was a good Saturday morning when a good friend of mine, who happen to be a keen freelance photographer from Kuching, and I went for a visit on my Tebedu worm farm. Thus I took this opportunity to "steal" some of his amazing photos for my blog and my website.

Tebedu is situated approximately 105 km from Kuching city of Sarawak, Malaysia. Another 3 km drive, you will reach the border of Malaysia - Indonesia. Entikong is the closest city from our Indonesian neighbor. Both Tebedu and Entikong served as important towns for daily trading such as food and other groceries supply between these 2 countries.
The locals here consist of the majority Sarawak native of the Bidayuh ethnic. Most of them grow their own food such as vegetables and rice. A lot of the Dayaks still involved actively in pepper and "padi huma" farming on the slop of the hills and mountains. The lands are cleared by burning, which provides plnety of potash which is an important natural fertilizer to their crops.

The Chinese and Malay here mostly involved in trading business. The old town of Tebedu consists of 2 rows of shophouses with a total of 14 shophouses. Only less than 10 are still active in their trade such as peppers and groceries trading.
